Ahmedabad: A team of researchers from IIT Gandhinagar (IIT-Gn) has developed hydrogel that can remove toxic dyes from industrial wastewater. Findings of the research by Hitarth Patel and Bhaskar Datta were published in the journal ACS Applied Polymer Materials. Researchers said that the hydrogels work as microscopic sponges that can trap popular dyes such as crystal violet and rhodamine B. Patel said that the innovation was adjustment of acrylic acid in the gel that altered the adsorption behaviour of the material.
