Ahmedabad: Between May 19 and May 30, the health department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) collected 290 food samples from food units across the city, of which six samples were deemed substandard.Additionally, 86 samples of pani puri were collected from various areas, and seven were found to contain prohibited food colour. The offending pani puri stalls were subsequently seized.During the drive, the health department inspected 599 food units across the city, and issued notices to 202 units for violations.In all, 592kg of inedible food and 511 litres of non-potable liquids were destroyed.Of the 290 food samples collected, 65 were spices. All samples were sent to a public laboratory for testing, and eventually six were declared substandard.Moreover, over the past three months, 27 food samples of ‘analog paneer’ were declared substandard.Due to unhygienic conditions, a cafe in Bodakdev was sealed.Through May, 862 food samples were collected, and six were declared unsafe and 21 deemed substandard.
