Several Israeli politicians have condemned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's reported decision to postpone planned strikes on Beirut after US President Donald Trump urged him to exercise restraint. The criticism followed reports of a heated phone call between Trump and Netanyahu, during which the US president reportedly expressed frustration over Israel's planned military response to Hezbollah attacks. The apparent decision to delay the strikes triggered sharp criticism from several Israeli leaders.National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir publicly urged Netanyahu to reject American pressure and continue military operations against Hezbollah. "You said that a strong prime minister tells the President of the United States 'yes' when possible, and 'no' when necessary. This is the time to tell our friend, President Trump — 'no'," Ben-Gvir wrote on X.He added: "Now is the time to do what is required and necessary to strike Hezbollah, to unleash the hands of our fighters, and to restore security to the north."Former Israeli military chief and Yashar! Party leader Gadi Eisenkot also criticised the move, describing Trump's intervention as "a humiliating demand, one that is blatantly unreasonable."Eisenkot accused Netanyahu of contradicting his long-held position on maintaining Israeli independence in decision-making."He is the man who preached morals to everyone about the basic need to be a prime minister and know how to say 'no' to the President of the United States," Eisenkot said.Trump claims personal interventionIn a post on Truth Social, Donald Trump claimed he personally intervened to prevent a large-scale attack on Beirut."I asked him not to do it, and he turned his troops around. Thank you Bibi!" Trump wrote.Trump also said he had spoken with representatives linked to Hezbollah's leadership and that they had agreed to stop firing on Israel and its soldiers.Netanyahu's office maintains Israel's positionDespite Trump's claims, Netanyahu's office insisted that Israel's position remained unchanged and said the Israel Defense Forces would continue operating in southern Lebanon as planned.x.com/IsraeliPM/status/2061537790983287005?s=20“If Hezbollah does not stop firing at our cities and citizens – Israel will strike terrorist targets in Beirut.
