US-Israel-Iran War Ceasefire News Live Updates: ‘Our math is different’, Iran warns Gulf countries of ‘fourfold’ retaliation after Trump threat

US President Donald Trump has extended the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon by three weeks following White House talks, saying the agreement could open the door to a wider peace settlement and possible direct meetings between the leadership of both nations.

Trump described the Oval Office discussions as productive and historic, saying senior American officials, including JD Vance and Marco Rubio, met top Israeli and Lebanese representatives. He said he hopes to soon host Benjamin Netanyahu and Joseph Aoun in Washington, signalling a potential diplomatic breakthrough between neighbours that have rarely engaged directly.

The extension is aimed at calming a volatile border that has seen repeated exchanges of fire involving Hezbollah. Despite the announcement, fresh violence broke out almost immediately. Rockets were launched from Lebanon into northern Israel, according to Israeli officials, who said their defence systems intercepted the projectiles. Israel then carried out retaliatory strikes on launch sites and militant targets in southern Lebanon.

Lebanese officials reported injuries, including civilians hurt in artillery shelling in Yater, and fatalities in the Nabatieh region following separate Israeli airstrikes. Hezbollah later claimed responsibility for some rocket launches, saying they were retaliation for earlier Israeli attacks.

Israeli Ambassador Yechiel Leiter said peace with Lebanon was achievable and “not a pipe dream,” but argued that Hezbollah remains the main barrier to stability. He accused the group of repeatedly dragging Lebanon into war and preventing diplomatic progress. Lebanese Ambassador Nada Hamadeh Moawad thanked Washington for facilitating talks and called the moment historic.

Rubio echoed concerns about Hezbollah, saying the people of Lebanon deserve to live in a peaceful and prosperous country, but that armed organisations operating independently of the state continue to block that path. Israeli officials similarly say Hezbollah’s military capability remains the chief threat to communities in northern Israel.

Alongside the Israel-Lebanon developments, Trump also made new remarks on Iran. He refused to reveal what was found aboard a vessel intercepted while travelling from China to Iran, describing the materials as “top secret.” Trump further warned Tehran against using mines in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.

In another development, Rubio said the United States would not prevent Iran from taking part in the upcoming FIFA World Cup, clarifying that any security concerns would relate to accompanying personnel rather than players.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei praised domestic unity and said Iran’s enemies had suffered a setback. President Masoud Pezeshkian also rejected claims of internal division.

With the ceasefire now extended but clashes ongoing, the coming weeks may determine whether diplomacy gains ground or the conflict deepens further.

Iran on Saturday executed a man for carrying out a "mission" on behalf of Israel's spy agency during mass protests in January, the judiciary reported.

Iran US War: Turkey signals readiness to join Hormuz demining after peace deal
Turkey has said it could participate in mine-clearing operations in the Strait of Hormuz if a peace agreement is reached between Iran and the United States.

Foreign minister Hakan Fidan, speaking in London, said such efforts would likely be carried out by a multinational technical team formed after any deal. He added that Turkey views potential demining work positively, describing it as a humanitarian responsibility.

Fidan noted that Ankara would have “no problem” joining such an initiative under the right conditions, but cautioned that its stance could change if any future coalition becomes directly involved in renewed conflict.

He also expressed optimism that issues related to Iran’s nuclear programme could be addressed in the next round of talks expected in Pakistan.

US Iran War: Tehran says US seeking ‘face-saving’ exit as envoys head to Pakistan
Iran’s defence ministry has claimed that the United States is looking for a “face-saving” way to exit the war, even as American envoys travel to Pakistan for possible peace efforts.

A ministry spokesperson, quoted by ISNA, said Iran’s military strength had become a “dominant force” and described the conflict as a “quagmire” for Washington.

"Our military power today is a dominant force, and the enemy is looking for a face-saving way to escape the war quagmire it has become trapped in," a ministry spokesperson said.

The remarks come as US officials Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner head to Islamabad amid renewed diplomatic activity. However, Iranian state media has indicated that direct negotiations between the two sides are not currently planned.

Iran War: Iran executes man accused of spying for Israel amid ongoing conflict
Iran has executed a man accused of carrying out a mission on behalf of Israel’s intelligence agency, marking the latest in a series of executions since the war began.

According to the judiciary, Erfan Kiani was hanged after his death sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court. Authorities described him as a “main operative” working for Israel’s Mossad during unrest in Isfahan province earlier this year.

He was accused of multiple offences, including arson, destruction of property, possession of weapons, attacking security forces, and spreading fear among civilians during protests in January.

The execution follows another hanging earlier this week of a man linked to a banned opposition group. Officials say at least nine people have been executed since March on charges related to the protests.

Iran has intensified such actions amid the ongoing war with Israel and the United States, which began on February 28.

US Iran War: Spain calls itself ‘reliable’ Nato ally amid report of possible US pressure
Spain has stressed it remains a “reliable” member of Nato after reports suggested the United States was considering punitive steps over its stance on the Iran war.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez made the remark after Reuters reported that the Pentagon had explored options, including a possible suspension, for allies that did not support US-Israeli military operations against Iran.

Citing an anonymous US official, the report said the proposal was discussed internally as part of broader pressure tactics on Nato partners.

Spain has so far refrained from backing military action, highlighting growing divisions within the alliance over the ongoing conflict.

Iran War: Germany prepares minesweeper deployment for possible Hormuz mission
Germany is preparing for a potential naval deployment in the Strait of Hormuz, with defence minister Boris Pistorius saying a minesweeper is being sent to the Mediterranean.

He said the vessel could later be deployed alongside a command and supply ship, though no timeline has been specified.

Pistorius added that any deployment would depend on key conditions, including a sustained ceasefire between the US and Iran, a clear legal framework under international law, and approval from Germany’s parliament.

The move comes amid growing international efforts to secure maritime routes, with Germany highlighting its role within NATO in mine clearance operations.

US Iran War: Islamabad remains under lockdown as uncertainty clouds next round of US-Iran talks
Large parts of Pakistan’s capital Islamabad remain under a tight security lockdown for over a week, amid uncertainty over a proposed second round of US-Iran peace talks.

Key roads leading into the city are sealed, with the high-security Red Zone under strict cordon. Markets in the commercial Blue Area are largely deserted, public transport has been disrupted, and residents are facing shortages and uncertainty.

The lockdown follows an earlier closure on April 11 during the first round of talks, which ended without a breakthrough. While Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived for meetings with Pakistani leadership, Tehran has said no direct talks with the US are currently planned.

However, the White House indicated that US officials could travel to Pakistan for possible engagement, though the delegation has not yet arrived.

Pakistan has expressed hope for “meaningful engagements” to revive dialogue, even as uncertainty persists over whether fresh talks will materialise.

Iran War: Over 40 container ships stranded in Gulf as shipping disruption deepens
At least 43 container ships from the world’s largest shipping companies remain stranded in the Middle East Gulf, according to Lloyd’s List.

Major carriers have suspended services in the region since the war on Iran began in late February, leading to delays and rising costs for global trade.

The report said some vessels from companies such as CMA CGM, Cosco, Hapag-Lloyd and MSC managed to exit safely, though two MSC ships were seized by Iranian authorities.

US Iran War: Ceasefire holds but Hormuz traffic collapses as oil prices surge
A ceasefire remains in place after US President Donald Trump extended it by two weeks to allow more time for negotiations, but shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has dropped sharply.

Data shows only five ships crossed the strait in the past 24 hours, compared to around 130 daily before the war began on February 28. None of the large crude-carrying supertankers were among them.

The disruption has pushed oil prices higher, with Brent crude rising about 16% this week amid uncertainty over peace talks and renewed tensions in the region.

As Iranian FM reaches Islamabad, Army talks tough says 'missile capability not been used'
As Iran’s foreign minister Syed Aragchi arrived in Islamabad for bilateral talks and a possible meeting with US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Tehran issued a firm signal of its military strength. Defence Ministry spokesman Brigadier General Reza Talaei-Nik told state media that a large share of Iran’s missile capability remained unused during recent hostilities, reflecting deliberate strategic restraint. He claimed the armed forces maintained control of the skies over contested areas until shortly before the ceasefire.

Talaei-Nik added that much of Iran’s advanced weaponry is held in reserve and produced domestically, ensuring self-reliance. He highlighted decades of investment underpinning resilient defence infrastructure, supported by thousands of companies, and said key production could continue despite potential damage.

Iran War: Panama Canal fees surge to $4 million as Hormuz crisis reroutes global shipping
Companies are paying up to $4 million to secure passage through the Panama Canal as disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz force a major rerouting of global shipping.

According to the Panama Canal Authority, vessels without prior reservations are now bidding in auctions for transit slots, with prices soaring due to increased demand.

The surge comes as tensions between Iran and the United States have restricted movement through the Hormuz route, pushing companies to seek safer alternatives.

Iran War: EU says reopening Strait of Hormuz ‘vital’ amid stalled talks
The European Union has stressed the urgent need to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, calling it critical for global stability.

European Council President Antonio Costa said the key waterway “must immediately reopen without restrictions and without tolling,” adding that it is “vital for the entire world.”

The remarks come as efforts to revive talks between the US and Iran remain stalled, with Tehran refusing to engage while a US naval blockade on its ports continues.

Iran has effectively imposed its own restrictions on the strait, allowing only limited shipping, disrupting global energy flows.

Iran War: Malaysia in talks with Iran to allow tanker passage amid restrictions
Malaysia is in discussions with Iran to allow two Malaysian-owned fuel tankers to pass safely, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said.

The updated figures, released for the first time since the April 17 ceasefire, show an increase of 197 deaths in just one week.

Authorities said the rise was largely due to the recovery of bodies from areas that had previously been inaccessible during the conflict.

Iran War: Russia’s Lavrov says US actions in Iran, Venezuela driven by oil interests
Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov has claimed that US military actions in countries like Iran and Venezuela are driven by a desire to control oil resources.

In an interview, Lavrov said Washington prioritises its own economic interests and is willing to use measures such as coups or targeting foreign leaders to secure access to natural resources.

He alleged that the US has a “doctrine of dominance” in global energy markets and does not hide that oil is a key factor behind its interventions.

Lavrov also criticised what he described as the erosion of international law, arguing that global decisions are increasingly shaped by power rather than rules.

Israel Iran War: Hezbollah calls ceasefire ‘meaningless’ as clashes with Israel continue
Hezbollah has dismissed the US-mediated ceasefire with Israel as “meaningless,” a day after it was extended by three weeks.

The extension was announced by US President Donald Trump after meetings with Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors, even as the agreement between the two governments was nearing expiry.

Hezbollah lawmaker Ali Fayyad said ongoing Israeli actions, including strikes, shelling and demolitions in southern Lebanon, undermine the ceasefire. “Every Israeli attack gives the resistance the right to a proportionate response,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lebanese authorities reported two people killed in an Israeli strike, while Hezbollah said it had downed an Israeli drone.

Despite reduced hostilities overall, both sides have continued exchanges in southern Lebanon, where Israeli troops remain deployed in a self-declared “buffer zone.”

Israel Iran War: Israeli strikes in Gaza kill at least 11, including woman and child
At least 11 people were killed in a series of Israeli strikes across Gaza on Friday, according to health officials.

An afternoon drone strike near a police checkpoint in northwestern Gaza City killed two people and injured two others, officials at Shifa hospital said. The Israeli military said it had targeted “terrorists” but did not provide further details.

Later in the evening, a strike on a police vehicle in southern Gaza killed at least seven people, according to Nasser hospital. A separate strike in northern Gaza killed a woman and a child, officials added.

The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the evening strikes.

Health authorities in Gaza say more than 790 Palestinians have been killed despite an ongoing ceasefire, with strikes continuing to pose a near-daily threat.

US Iran War: Bessent rules out Iranian, Russian oil waivers; tightens sanctions pressure
US treasury secretary Scott Bessent on Friday said the United States will not renew any waiver allowing the purchase of Iranian oil or petroleum products currently at sea, signalling a further tightening of economic pressure amid the ongoing Iran conflict.

Speaking to The Associated Press, Bessent said the policy direction is aimed at maintaining the blockade and cutting off Iranian oil exports completely. “Not the Iranians. We have the blockade, and there’s no oil coming out,” he said, underscoring Washington’s stance on restricting Tehran’s energy revenues.

He also confirmed that a one-time waiver for Russian oil shipments at sea will not be extended. According to Bessent, most of the Russian oil already in transit has been absorbed by the market, reducing the need for further exemptions.

The comments come as energy markets remain volatile due to continued disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and broader regional instability linked to the Iran conflict.

Netanyahu says ‘historic peace’ process with Lebanon underway; accuses Hezbollah of sabotage
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said a process aimed at achieving “historic peace” between Israel and Lebanon has begun following the US-brokered three-week truce, while accusing Hezbollah of attempting to undermine the effort. In remarks shared by his office, Netanyahu said Israel remains committed to maintaining security and will continue military action against threats.

“I promised you that we would change the face of the Middle East, and that is exactly what we are doing. First and foremost, on Iran: I have had an excellent conversation with President Trump. He is applying very strong pressure on Iran, both economically and militarily. We are operating in full cooperation,” Netanyahu said.

On Lebanon, he added, “The same applies to Lebanon: We have begun a process to achieve a historic peace between Israel and Lebanon, and it is clear to us that Hezbollah is trying to sabotage this.” He said Israeli forces would continue to act against threats, stating, “We are maintaining full freedom of action against any threat, including emerging ones. We attacked yesterday and we attacked today. We are determined to restore security to the residents of the North.”

In a statement, the group said a gathering of Israeli soldiers and a military vehicle in al-Qantara were struck in two separate drone attacks, according to a report by Al Jazeera.

It also claimed to have shot down an Israeli Hermes 450 drone over Tyre using a surface-to-air missile. Additional attacks included a drone strike on an Israeli armoured personnel carrier in Ramyah and an assault on a Humvee at the entrance of al-Qantara using what it described as “appropriate weapons.”

She said President Donald Trump had sent Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Islamabad “to hear the Iranians out.”

The US has had no independent diplomatic representation in Iran since 1979, when its embassy was seized during the Islamic revolution.

The Swiss foreign ministry said the decision was taken in consultation with both Iran and the United States. It added that Switzerland is prepared to make its diplomatic facilities available to support “all diplomatic initiatives that contribute to de-escalation and a lasting peace.”

Iranian parliament speaker warns of stress in US markets, flags curbs on asset sales
Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, issued a stark warning about potential stress in US financial markets, claiming that liquidity measures such as central bank swap lines are being used to prevent a “disorderly sale” of American assets.

Quoting a news story by The New York times, he suggested that some institutional investors face implicit limits on how much they can offload, hinting at constrained market functioning beneath the surface.

Cautioning that the “door closes if things escalate,” he urged investors to exit positions while markets remain open, adding that the US yield curve has become the “frontline” in managing the situation.

"Swaps given "to prevent disorderly sale of US assets." Translation: some holders can't sell. ICYDK: hidden single-digit % sale cap limits some institutional holders. Door closes if things escalate. Get out while open. Their frontline is the yield curve," he wrote.

IDF says Hamas operatives killed in Gaza strike; denies targeting police patrol
The Israeli military said it carried out an airstrike in northern Gaza, killing several armed Hamas operatives who it claimed posed an immediate threat to its troops stationed in the area.

In a statement, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said the strike was conducted “to remove the threat to our forces,” without specifying the exact number of casualties.

"Hezbollah rocket launchers in the areas of Yater and Kafra in southern Lebanon, north of the Forward Defense Line. The launchers posed a threat to IDF soldiers and Israeli civilians," IDF said in a post on X.

The development comes after Gaza’s Hamas-run interior ministry accused Israeli forces of targeting members of its police force during a patrol near a police station in the Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood of western Gaza City.

According to the ministry, several people were killed and others wounded in the strike, presenting a contrasting account of the incident.

Israel-Iran war news: Israeli strikes kill 12 in Gaza, police among dead as ceasefire strains

At least 12 Palestinians, including six police officers, have been killed in a fresh wave of Israeli strikes across Gaza, according to local medics, underscoring the fragile state of the ceasefire in the besieged enclave. In Gaza City, an airstrike killed three people, among them two police officers, while tank shelling in Beit Lahiya left two dead. The deadliest strike was reported in Khan Younis, where seven people, including four police personnel, were killed after a police vehicle was hit near a wedding hall, witnesses said.

Gaza’s interior ministry accused Israel of deliberately targeting the police force, warning that such attacks risk further eroding already fragile efforts to maintain basic order amid the ongoing crisis. The Israeli military confirmed carrying out a strike in Gaza City, even as the ceasefire has seen repeated violations in recent days.

The continued targeting of security personnel and civilian-linked infrastructure highlights the deepening tensions on the ground, raising concerns over the sustainability of the ceasefire and the broader humanitarian situation in Gaza.

US Iran war: Exploratory US-Iran talks signal cautious progress despite ongoing blockade
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has said she has seen progress in the last few days in the Iran negotiations, even as the current round appears to be more exploratory in nature rather than a formal engagement like the previous talks held in Islamabad that ended without a breakthrough. This time, US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are leading the American side, though notably without US vice president JD Vance, who had headed the earlier delegation.

Leavitt said both the vice president and US secretary of state Marco Rubio will monitor the discussions from Washington and, if necessary, travel to Islamabad if the talks move to a more substantive level.

One of Iran’s key conditions had been that negotiations could not proceed while the US blockade remained in place. Despite this, the blockade not only continues but is reportedly intensifying. As US secretary of defence Pete Hegseth indicated, the scope of the blockade is expanding beyond the Strait of Hormuz to a wider operational area.

US Iran war: Iran denies holding talks with US in Islamabad; rejects White House claims on negotiations
Iran’s news agency Tasnim has pushed back against the White House’s account of ongoing diplomacy, accusing Washington of misrepresenting Tehran’s position on direct talks. The outlet, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, rejected claims by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt that Iran had requested a face-to-face meeting with US officials in Islamabad.

“Iran has not made any request to talk with the Americans, and, on the contrary, it has completely rejected the requests of the Americans for negotiations due to their arrogance until this moment,” the agency said in a post on Telegram. It further added, “Despite the great thirst and need of the Americans for negotiations, Iran has emphasized that there is no decision to negotiate with the United States ‘currently and under the existing conditions’ due to the excesses of the United States.”

The sharp rebuttal comes even as exploratory contacts and indirect engagements are reportedly underway in Islamabad.

Iran signals fresh proposal as Trump claims US is engaging with ‘those in charge’
US President Donald Trump has said Iran is preparing to make a new offer aimed at meeting Washington’s demands, indicating a possible shift in the long-running standoff between the two countries.

In a phone interview with Reuters, Trump said, “They’re making an offer and we’ll have to see,” while adding that US officials are now “dealing with the people who are in charge” in Tehran, suggesting more direct or meaningful engagement.

The remarks come as Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Islamabad on the first leg of a three-country diplomatic tour, where he is expected to participate in crucial negotiations. The timing of Trump’s comments has raised expectations of a renewed push toward a deal, even as both sides remain cautious after earlier talks failed to yield a breakthrough.

“They’re delaying it because they — we don’t know who to deal with,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday. “They know who the leader is in this country. We don’t know who the leader is in Iran.”

Islamabad would again serve as the venue for a second round of US-Iran negotiations, with a US logistics and security team already on the ground to support the process. The development comes as the White House announced that US special envoy Steve Witkoff and presidential adviser Jared Kushner will travel to Pakistan for the talks.

US President Donald Trump has announced a three-week extension of the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon after high-level talks at the White House, calling the development a “historic moment” and expressing hope that leaders from both countries could soon meet in Washington.

Trump said senior US officials, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, met delegations from Israel and Lebanon in the Oval Office. He added that the truce extension could create space for broader peace negotiations and possibly direct engagement between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.

Israeli Ambassador Yechiel Leiter described peace with Lebanon as “not a pipe dream,” saying there were no core disputes that could not be solved. Lebanese Ambassador Nada Hamadeh Moawad also welcomed the talks, describing them as a rare diplomatic opportunity.

However, hostilities continued despite the announcement. Fresh exchanges erupted between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, with rockets launched from southern Lebanon toward northern Israel. Israel said its air defence systems intercepted the projectiles before retaliatory strikes targeted missile launchers and militant infrastructure. Lebanese authorities also reported casualties in separate Israeli attacks.

US officials have increasingly linked any long-term peace arrangement to curbing Hezbollah’s military presence in Lebanon. Rubio said the Lebanese people deserve peace and prosperity, but that armed groups operating outside state authority remain a key obstacle.

The ceasefire extension comes amid rising regional tensions involving Iran. Trump refused to disclose details of a ship intercepted while travelling from China to Iran, describing the cargo as “top secret.” He also warned Tehran against deploying naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz, calling such a move “very foolish.”

Separately, Rubio said the United States would not block Iran from participating in the upcoming FIFA World Cup, despite speculation over possible replacement scenarios.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei praised national unity, saying “a fracture has occurred in the enemy,” while President Masoud Pezeshkian dismissed suggestions of internal division.

The next three weeks are expected to be crucial, with diplomacy offering hope even as military risks remain high.
