Russia Ukraine war news: Russian forces in Ukraine ordered to resume offensive 'from all directions'
Ukrainian forces are trying to hold the Russians at bay on the outskirts of capital Kyiv. US has announced sanctions on several Russian business entities and individuals, including President Putin and foreign minister Lavrov. Indians in Ukraine are being brought back through Hungary, Budapest and Romania, and MEA officials are coordinating operations. Stay with TOI for live updates.

Ukraine says two commercial ships hit by Russian missiles near Odessa port
Ukraine said Russian warships shelled a Moldovan-flagged chemical tanker and a Panamanian-flagged cargo ship due to load grain near Odessa port in the Black Sea on Friday, one day after Russia began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. A total of three non-military vessels have now been hit since the start of the invasion. On Thursday, the Turkish-owned Yasa Jupiter cargo ship was struck off Odessa.

Ukraine's military said it has shot down a Russian military transport plane with paratroopers on board.
According to a statement from the military's General Staff, the Il-76 heavy transport plane was shot down near Vasylkiv, a city 40 kilometres south of Kyiv. The Russian military has not commented on the incident so far, and the report could not be immediately verified. (AP)
