India’s security agencies have dealt a significant blow to cross-border terrorism with the arrest of Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Shabbir Lone near Delhi. Operating from Bangladesh, Lone had built a decentralised terror network spanning multiple Indian states, focusing on recruitment, planning and propaganda. The two-month-long operation involved coordinated intelligence tracking, leading to the capture of a high-value target who had been on the radar for years. Investigators have uncovered evidence of advanced planning, including sensitive data on potential targets and digital communication with handlers. The arrests of several operatives, including illegal migrants with forged documents, point to a deeper ecosystem supporting such activities. Agencies are now expanding their probe to trace links with The Resistance Front and its leadership. The development underscores the changing nature of terror threats and highlights India’s growing capability to detect and dismantle complex networks before they strike.
