EC Announces Phase 3 Of SIR Across 16 States, 3 UTs; J&K, Ladakh, Himachal Left Out

The Election Commission of India has announced Phase III of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across 16 states and 3 Union Territories. The exercise aims to update voter lists nationwide, excluding Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh for now due to ongoing Census activities and difficult weather conditions in snow-bound regions. The poll body said schedules for these areas will be announced later. During the first two phases, covering 13 states and UTs with nearly 59 crore electors, over 6.3 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and 9.2 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) participated. In Phase III, more than 3.94 lakh BLOs will conduct door-to-door verification for 36.73 crore electors, assisted by 3.42 lakh BLAs appointed by political parties.
