MI vs LSG Highlights, IPL 2025: Mumbai Indians hammer Lucknow Super Giants by 54 runs

MI vs LSG Highlights, IPL 2025: Mumbai Indians continued their winning streak, securing their fifth consecutive victory in the Indian Premier League with a commanding 54-run win over Lucknow Super Giants at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. The Mumbai batting lineup fired on all cylinders, posting a formidable 215 for seven, thanks to explosive half-centuries from Suryakumar Yadav and Ryan Rickelton. Later, Jasprit Bumrah's exceptional bowling restricted LSG to 161.

Suryakumar Yadav's stellar form continued as he smashed 54 off just 28 deliveries, becoming the leading run-scorer of the tournament, surpassing the 400-run mark. His innings, studded with four sixes and four fours, also saw him reach a personal milestone of 4,000 IPL runs. Opener Ryan Rickelton provided the early impetus with a blistering 58 off 32 balls, setting a strong foundation for Mumbai's imposing total. Their aggressive batting negated LSG's decision to bowl first on what turned out to be a batting-friendly pitch.

Despite an early setback with Rohit Sharma's dismissal, the partnership between Rickelton and Will Jacks (29) steadied the innings. Suryakumar's arrival further accelerated the scoring rate, maintaining pressure on the LSG bowlers. Even quick wickets of Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya in the middle overs couldn't derail Mumbai's momentum.

In the second innings, Jasprit Bumrah's brilliance with the ball proved decisive. His masterful spell of 4 for 22 choked the LSG chase right from the start. Notably, Bumrah surpassed Lasith Malinga to become Mumbai Indians' highest wicket-taker in IPL history, a testament to his consistent excellence. His early dismissal of Aiden Markram set the tone for Mumbai's bowling dominance.

While Nicholas Pooran showed glimpses of his power-hitting with three consecutive sixes, his dismissal off Will Jacks proved to be a crucial turning point. LSG captain Rishabh Pant's struggles continued as he fell cheaply for just 4 runs. Mitchell Marsh offered some resistance with 34, but Trent Boult's crucial wickets of Marsh and Ayush Badoni (35) effectively sealed the victory for Mumbai. Boult finished with impressive figures of 3 for 20.

Ultimately, LSG's batting lineup failed to build substantial partnerships and struggled to maintain the required run rate on a pitch conducive to scoring. Mumbai's disciplined bowling attack, spearheaded by Bumrah and well-supported by Boult, ensured a comfortable 54-run victory, strengthening their position in the IPL standings while leaving LSG with concerns to address, particularly their captain's form.

Mayank Yadav to Rohit Sharma, OUT! CAUGHT! Mayank Yadav has the last laugh and Mumbai Indians lose their first wicket for 33 runs. Surprisingly, for Mayank, he gets rid of Rohit by a slower ball. Slows it up even further than the previous ball and bowls it at 120.8 kph, on a length and well outside off. Rohit Sharma bends a bit and reaches for the ball in an attempt to squeeze it behind square on the off side, but fails to read the slower ball. Scoops it off the outer half of the bat, straight to Prince Yadav at short third, who takes a simple catch. Rohit Sharma departs for 12 (5).

Angles it in, on a back of length, into the bodyline, Ryan Rickelton swivels to help it on its way behind square, but the ball skids through quicker than he expected it to. Misses and gets hit on the body, and the ball drops just beside the stumps. Lucky escape for Ryan!

But then, Rohit changed his mind after seeing the fielder get to the ball quickly. Rickelton was stranded halfway down and was on the point of no return. Aiden Markram got to the ball, took aim and had a shy the striker's end but missed. Ryan was nowhere in the frame!

The umpires make their way out to the middle and a huge roar engulfs them as the Men In Blue's openers follow them - Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton. Rohit has a bit of a nudge with Rishabh Pant and it is good to see both of them smiling, and in high spirits. And now, here is the sensation - MAYANK YADAV. He can bowl fast, but remember, if he is erratic, the faster he bowls, the faster he will travel. Rickelton will be on strike. Here we go!

So all eyes will be on Corbin Bosch. Remember, he was initially scheduled to play for Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League, but after being picked in the IPL auctions, chose his loyalty towards Mumbai. PSL has banned him for one year as he withdrew after committing to the franchise, but as far as Corbin is concerned, it is a thing of the past. Bosch is a fast bowler, with decent batting skills, as was shown in Centurion in a Test match against Pakistan in 2024. Understandably, Bumrah will be resting in the first innings and will be expected to come in as the impact player in the second innings. As far as Lucknow are concerned, they are going in with 3 overseas players, opening the door to use David Miller in the second innings as an impact player. As per the rules of the IPL, you can use an overseas player as an impact player ONLY IF the starting XI has less than 4 overseas players.

The skipper of Mumbai Indians, HARDIK PANDYA, says he was also planning to bowl first but looking at the heat, does not mind batting first either. On the adjustment needed to play a day game, Hardik says that it is just the mindset and reminding oneself that as children, they used to play in this heat. So, his advice is to not think about the heat else it could mentally tire you down. On the ESA day, Pandya states that the ESA game has always been very special, applauding the initiative by Ms. Nita Ambani, saying that it is a dream come true for so many children and at the same time, a great motivation for the players. On being informed that as per the global analysts, whenever MI have won 5 matches on the trot, they have gone on to win the IPL, HP says that he doesn't think too much about these things but does remember this happening in 2015 when he won his first IPL trophy. But adds that rather than focussing on these things, he would rather focus on sticking to the processes, albeit admitting that momentum is always handy. On the team changes, Hardik Pandya informs that Karn Sharma comes back, and also states that Mitchell Santner misses out as he has sustained a niggle in his finger, enabling Corbin Bosch to make his debut.

15:11 (IST) Apr 27

The captain of Lucknow Super Giants, RISHABH PANT, says that the wicket might start slow under the heat and get better later on, which is why he wants to bowl first. Mentions that he is just trying to stay in a positive mindset and talking to everybody around, not trying to think a lot about the game. On LSG's excellent head-to-head record against MI, having won 6 out of the previous 7 encounters, Pant states that the stats are there only to give comfort and knowledge but they will have to play well on the given day. Informs that Mayank Yadav comes in place of Shardul Thakur. Concludes that as a team they want to stick together and play positively.

IPL Live Score: Trent Boult on evolution of T20 cricket
Boult said T20 cricket has evolved with batters finding ways to hit big shots but that also presents the bowlers an opportunity to bag wickets.

"No doubt, a 300-plus score will be reached this tournament. The ball seems to be travelling further, though I'd like to believe it's still swinging in some parts of the country," Boult said on JioHotstar's special series 'Gen Gold'.

"From a bowling perspective, the only positive is that batsmen are coming hard, which creates opportunities. If we focus on being accurate, stay aggressive, and give it a real crack, bowlers will have their day at some point. That's what fans want to see, and I'm sure there'll be plenty watching."

The New Zealander said bowling at death has become a huge challenge and his endeavour has been to keep getting better and never let with his skills or performance dip.

"I'm constantly pushing myself to come up with new options and plans. These days, there are so many batters -- some we've never even heard of or played against -- so you've got to be on your game. Clarity is key, and executing under pressure makes the difference.

"It's all about training well and being ready for those moments."

MI vs LSG Live Score: MI bank on Surya
MI's surge after a familiar poor start has largely been powered by India's T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav-with 373 runs in nine matches, including two fiftis@62.16, and an incredible strike rate of 166.51, SKY has been MI's leading run-getter this season. While he smashed a 19-ball 40 not out to star in MI's seven-wicket romp over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad, India's T20 captain was at his imperious best during his 30-ball 68 not out, which included five sixes, that fashioned a nine-wicket thrashing of CSK at the Wankhede Stadium on April 20. Sweeping with ridiculous command during his entertaining 114-run stand in just 54 balls for the second wicket with Rohit, the 34-year-old completely nullified CSK's spin trio of Noor Ahmed, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandra Ashwin.

MI will thus bank on SKY to once again tackle the threat of impressive leg-spinner Digvesh Rathi, who has taken nine wickets in nine matches, managing to catch attention with his performances rather than just his 'notebook celebration' which the umpires have now become lenient about.

IPL Live: Ravi Bishnoi on Digvesh Rathi
"Rathi has been bowling good for his first year. We as a bowling unit have been working hard because the game has changed, it's a batters game and we are trying hard to deceive the batsmen as well," he said.

"It has been good partnering with him as a bowler. I am telling you that if you want to play cricket, you should have confidence like Rathi.

"I mean, being a bowler you need to have that confidence. His confidence is key for him, he is always there for the battle whenever you give the ball to him, be it the powerplay or the death (overs). He is always there," Bishnoi added.

IPL Live Score: Pooran on team owner Dr. Sanjiv Goenka
"He's been brilliant when it comes to supporting the guys. He allowed the guys to make the decisions, based on the cricket. That's what I have felt so far. The owners have given the guys enough opportunities and obviously that has an impact on the game for the whole team and that was wonderful.

"Obviously it's business end and with his backing, hopefully the guys can come up trumps now," said Pooran,

"Even before the incident we (him and Pant) had a good relationship. We always connect. We always chat, get together whenever we can. If he's in the Caribbean or if I'm here," Nicholas Pooran told PTI.

"Accident is just something which was really unfortunate in our respective journeys but the bright side is we're here playing cricket today. And that is a wonderful feeling. But yeah, we share our experiences. We try to help each other as much as we can," Pooran added.

MI vs LSG Live: Kierran Pollard on Rohit Sharma
"If my memory serves me right, at the start of this competition, that question was different. I said sitting right here, we are also going to be singing his praises as an individual," Pollard said when asked about Rohit's return to form. "For us, we always had that belief that he is going to come good."

"There are dips. There is low confidence. But for someone who has played this sport for a long time, you have these moments. Sometimes you just need that extra support from people. Now we are singing his praises. We are all very happy in the Mumbai dressing room. We were happy at the start as well, knowing that it is going to happen, and long may it continue.

"The headlines are going to be about that. But for us, in our entire batting unit, we look for guys to perform at different junctures in a tournament. We are not going to individualise it."
