That is it from this game and it is Delhi who get back to winning ways, leaving Gujarat with just one win on the board. The action in the Women's T20 League 2023 continues on Sunday, the 12th of March with table-toppers Mumbai taking on an impressive UP side at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. That game will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) but you can join us a lot early for the build-up as well. Cheers!
Marizanne Kapp (4-0-15-5) wins the Player of the Match award for her exceptional bowling performance. Starts by saying that she wanted to perform badly. Admits that she hasn't been at her best in previous matches with her line and length. Adds that she is glad to hit the right areas and benefit from it. Mentions that they have a great group of players and it is amazing to be a part of this team.
The skipper of Delhi, Meg Lanning says that it was cool to watch Shafali Verma from the other end and it was some of the cleanest hitting she has seen. Adds that she told her to keep it simple and hit straight and that is exactly what she did. Mentions that it seemed like a new ball wicket and they wanted to make sure to play the balls on merit and tried to go after the balls if they were full or short. On Marizanne Kapp, Meg says that bowling on a good length is what she does best and she hit her mark amazingly well. Ends by saying that they bowled well and to end like that with the bat feels amazing
The Presentation ceremony...
The player of the moment, Shafali Verma (76* off 28 balls) is down for a chat. She says that she wanted to give her best and wasn't after finishing the game early. Adds that she got out playing the flick in the last game and tried playing as straight as possible and thanks her coaches and family. Mentions that she loves hitting maximums and will keep on working hard to improve. Adds that Meg Lanning and her were just trying to back each other and that helps on the ground. Says that the wicket was good and the ball was skidding and if they were batting first, they would have tried to score 200 runs.
Gujarat's captain Sneh Rana starts by saying that the girls did their best, but it just wasn't their day. Informs that the wicket was a bit skiddy. Praises Shafali Verma's knock and says that she was incredible throughout the innings.
Earlier in the game, Sneh Rana won the toss and Gujarat opted to bat first and set the tone in a big game but things didn't go to plan one bit. Marizanne Kapp ran through their top order and even the incoming Laura Wolvaardt couldn't impress much. Harleen Deol, their in-form batter played a couple of good shot but fell as well for 20 runs and Kapp bowled four overs on the trot, ending up with five wickets in the kitty. After that Georgia Wareham and Kim Garth put on a decent stand for Gujarat before Shikha Pandey picked up three wickets as well, slowing down the run-scoring yet again. Garth ended up with a crucial unbeaten 32 to take Gujarat over the 100-run mark. Coming to the chase, the Delhi openers didn't even break a sweat with Shafali Verma in full flow and got the win to go level on points with Mumbai.
Gujarat and their injury issues don't seem to end and neither does their misery as this is the second time in four games where they were not upto the mark with bat or ball. Defending a low score and skipper Sneh Rana not taking the field, Kim Garth started off decently with ball in hand. But after the first over, it all went haywire and their bowlers were hammered all around the park and even Ashleigh Gardner wasn't spared. In the end, they succumbed to a deflating loss, their third in four games.
Chasing a modest target of 106 runs, Delhi started off watchfully in the first over but after that Shafali Verma just went into overdrive. She took on every bowler that came into the attack and took them apart as well. Verma reached 50 in just 19 balls and didn't slow down until the end, finishing with an unbeaten 76 off just 28 balls. Meg Lanning who was ball-watching for the most part too played a few lovely shots and became the first batter to surpass 200 runs in the tournament, also hitting the winning runs.
What a stunning comeback this has been by Delhi! They were outclassed by Mumbai in the previous game but have come out in this game with a positive mindset and have simply handed Gujarat a real thumping.

WIDE! Misses her mark as she bowls it full and well down the leg side, left alone by Meg Lanning for a wide.
Short again at the body, Verma keeps it down in front of mid-wicket and picks up a run.
FOUR! Make that a hat-trick of boundaries now! Shorter one around off, Shafali Verma stays leg side of the ball but opens the face of the bat and guides it inside the fielder at short third man for a boundary.

... The Run Chase ...
Right then. Delhi bowlers have done their job tremendously well here. The onus now is on their batters to chase this below-par target. Gujarat need to keep things tight from the get go. Will they be able to do so? Do join us shortly for the second essay to find out.
Marizanne Kapp is in for a quick chat. She says that in the first three games she was a bit all over the place and this was the first time she hit her lengths right. Adds that herself and Shikha Pandey talk about the fact that when they ball second there's less movement and were happy to bowl first. Says that she started as normal and just when she started to change her grip, it came off nicely. Mentions that she is happy to contribute to the team and as long as the team is winning she doesn't really care if she is doing great or not.
Delhi were on fire with the ball in hand, especially Marizanne Kapp, who single-handedly torn apart the Gujarat's top-order. Marizanne Kapp picked up a five-wicket haul in her spell of four over which she completed in just 7 overs. Shikha Pandey also did well to keep things tight with the ball and picked up three wickets.
Gujarat were off to a horrible start. Certainly their worst one of the season so far. Gujarat's tall-batting order could not justify their skipper's decision to bat first. At one stage, Gujarat were teetering at 28/5 inside the five overs. It looked like they could not even get near the 100-run mark, but credit to the middle order and the tail-enders here. They have done really well to bat throughout the innings and give something for their bowler's to fight for.
Gujarat have managed to get to a three-digit score. They have managed to add some impetus to the scoreboard here, but Delhi would still be the happier side heading into the break.
FOUR! Mansi Joshi ends the innings on a positive note. Tossed up full and around off, Mansi Joshi skips down the track and whacks it over wide mid off for a boundary. Gujarat finish with 105/9 on the board!
Full and on the legs, Kim Garth sweeps it firmly behind square leg for a single and the 100 is up for Gujarat.
A single now as this is tapped towards point.
Full and on the pads, Garth steps out and works it to deep mid-wicket for a single.
Around middle and leg, Garth hits it toward cover.
Good effort in the deep by Radha Yadav! Tossed up around middle, Kim Garth comes forward and lofts it down toward long on. Yadav comes racing in and puts in the dive but the ball falls short. She manages to get a hand on it and keeps it down to two runs.
Mansi Joshi is the final batter in.
OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Shikha Pandey gets her third wicket of the game and Gujarat in danger of bundling out for under 100 runs. Pandey keeps bowling it a bit slower and on the shorter side this time. Sneh Rana comes forward and looks to whack it away but miscues it completely. The ball lobs up high in the air but goes nowhere. The bowler settles under it and takes it safely.
In the air....safe! A good slower one by Shikha Pandey as she bowls it on a length and outside off. Sneh Rana gets down on one knee looking for the sweep but has to fetch for it. Rana gets a top edge over the keeper's head and picks up a couple of runs as the fielder at short third man cuts it off.
The physio is out now. Sneh Rana gets pinged on her helmet and now she has to go through the concussion protocol. Nothing serious though and Sneh Rana is back at the crease.
Ouch, straight into the helmet! A solid bumper from Shikha Pandey first up to Sneh Rana who tries to take it on but gets hurried. The ball misses the bat and goes on to hit the front of the helmet and the physio will now come out to perform a mandatory concsussion check. Hope Rana is fine.
Sneh Rana is the new batter in.
OUT! CAUGHT! A simple catch for Jemimah Rodrigues who gives the crowd something to cheer about with her dancing celebration. Shikha Pandey bowls it on a length around off and once again Tanuja Kanwar comes down the pitch looking for the big hit. Kanwar doesn't get enough on it and ends up lofting it straight down to long on where Jemimah pouches it safely. Pandey picks up her second wicket of the game and Gujarat lose their eighth.

Shorter one on middle and leg, Tanuja Kanwar gets down on one knee and gets inside the line of the ball to lap it toward fine leg for a single.
Pitched up around off and angling across, this is driven square of the wicket to deep cover for a single.
Length ball around off, Garth walks toward the ball and eases it through the cover region for one.
Good length around off, pushed out toward cover-point.
FOUR! These are valuable runs for Gujarat and it is an excellent shot by Kim Garth. This is bowled right in the blockhole outside off, Garth opens the bat face late and squeezes it fine into the third man fence.
Slower and shorter around off, Kanwar waits for it and pats it in front of point for a single.
FOUR! Streaky but Gujarat will take it! Pitched up from around the wicket and angling into the off pole. Tanuja Kanwar looks to drive but gets an inside edge past leg stump and the ball runs away into the fine leg fence.
Strategic break! It has somewhat been a good recovery by Gujarat. The stand between Kim Garth and Georgia Wareham certainly helped them to stay in the game here. Although, Kim Garth is the only settled batter at the crease. She holds the key for this Gujarat innings. Delhi would hope to pick the remaining wickets as soon as possible here. An enticing passage of play awaits.
Six singles off the over! Nicely flighted around off stump, turning it away. Tanuja Kanwar steps out and looks to go downtown but miscues it up in the air. Luckily for her, the ball lands safely right back over the bowler's head before the fielder from mid off cuts it out. Single taken.
Shorter on middle, Garth flicks it well in front of square on the leg side for a single.
Gujarat are finding it difficult to find the fence at the moment. Tossed up around off, Tanuja Kanwar steps out and heaves it without much timing to wide long on for one.
Shortens the length a bit and bowls it outside off, Kim Garth walks down the track and pushes it down to long off for one more.
Full on middle and leg, Tanuja Kanwar skips down the track and forces it through mid on for one.
