IND vs WI Live Score: After 64 years, Team India smashes batting record vs West Indies
After 64 years and 10 months, Team India has etched a remarkable record in Test cricket. For the first time in over six decades, India registered 50+ partnerships for each of the first five wickets in a Test innings.
This rare achievement was previously accomplished by India against England at Mumbai in 1993 and Australia at Ahmedabad in 2023. Meanwhile, the last time an opposition managed this against the West Indies was Australia in the tied Test at the Gabba in 1960.
In the second Test against West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bat. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal played a brilliant 175, only falling to a run-out involving Chanderpaul and Tevin Imlach. KL Rahul added 38, while Sai Sudharsan narrowly missed out on a century, scoring 87. Anchoring the innings, Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten 129, marking his 10th Test century.
This commanding batting effort came after India’s dominant win in the first Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where they triumphed by an innings and 140 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
Looking at the broader statistics, there have been 25 Test centuries in the last 14 India vs West Indies Tests since 2013, with 23 from Indian batters. Roston Chase remains the only West Indies player to reach three figures in this span, doing so twice.
