England vs Australia Highlights, Women's World Cup 2025: Annabel Sutherland, Ashleigh Gardner fire Australia to six-wicket win over England

England vs Australia Highlights, Women's World Cup 2025: Australia reaffirmed their supremacy in women’s cricket with a dominant six-wicket win over England in the Women’s World Cup clash at Indore on Wednesday. The all-round brilliance of Annabel Sutherland and Ashleigh Gardner powered the defending champions to an emphatic result after early trouble in the chase.

Chasing 245, Australia slumped to 24/3 within the first six overs, as England’s new-ball pair Linsey Smith and Lauren Bell struck early blows. But what followed was a commanding rescue act. Sutherland, who capped her superb all-round display with an unbeaten 98, joined forces with Gardner, who struck a fluent 104 not out. The duo added an unbroken 180-run partnership — one that completely turned the match around and silenced England’s momentum.

Their effort ensured Australia reached the target with 57 balls remaining, maintaining their unbeaten record in the tournament and moving back to the top of the points table.

Earlier, England chose to bat first and got a strong start through Tammy Beaumont, who anchored the innings with a composed 79 from 108 balls. Amy Jones (18) and Heather Knight (20) provided brief support, while Alice Capsey (38) and Charlie Dean (26) lifted the side towards a modest total of 244/9.

Australia’s bowling, however, never allowed England to break free. Sutherland took 3/60, while Gardner (2/39), Sophie Molineux (2/52) and Alana King (1/20) choked the scoring with disciplined spells. King’s dismissal of Nat Sciver-Brunt and Molineux’s breakthrough against Knight proved decisive in halting England’s progress.

Beaumont’s fluent strokeplay and positive intent kept England afloat, but wickets at regular intervals meant the total never threatened Australia’s depth.

In reply, after the early wobble, Gardner and Sutherland showcased poise and power, steering Australia home with ease. Their partnership not only sealed the contest but also highlighted why Australia continue to be the benchmark side in women’s cricket.

Alana King to Tammy Beaumont, An absolute jaffa from Alana King as she delivers a classic leg break. Drifting into the middle stump and then getting it to turn away very sharply off the pitch. Tammy Beaumont leans forward to defend, but plays inside the line and the ball passes scarily close to the outside edge, before Beth Mooney gathers it behind the stumps. A huge appeal for caught behind, but not given. Beth Mooney is certain that there is an edge and McGrath takes the review. UltraEdge, however, shows a flat line as the ball is next to the bat. So, the on-field decision is upheld and Tammy Beaumont survives a scare.

Alana King to Sophia Dunkley, In with a dive! Floaty delivery, full and around the off pole. Sophia Dunkley leans forward and taps it to the widish extra cover region and calls Tammy for a quick single. Beaumont responds, but the fielder, Phoebe Litchfield, dives forward underarms the throw towards Beth Mooney who flicks the ball on the stumps. However, Tammy Beaumont's full-length dive saves her as she drags the bat in the nick of time before the stumps are hit.

Top class from Australian spinners. Another dominant phase for them, as they have completely strangled the scoring in the 21-30 over period. England managed just 26 runs in this stretch with just one boundary, and the dismissal of Nat Sciver-Brunt has forced Tammy Beaumont to shift into survival mode. After reaching 52 off 59 balls, she’s managed only 12 runs from her next 29 deliveries, while Sophia Dunkley continues to find it tough at the other end. Australia will aim to get Tammy out quickly to really expose and put the English middle order under extreme pressure.

Australia continue to put the squeeze on. They have conceded just 10 runs in the last 5 overs, and have grabbed a massive wicket of Nat Sciver-Brunt as well. Dunkley has arrived and has looked all but comfortable, facing a relentless trial by spin. Australia will be mindful of the fragile English middle order and a couple of more wickets will really put heaps of pressure on them. There hasn't been extravagant spin by the looks of it, barring a few odd balls, but it is skidding for sure and rushing the batters off the shots. Not easy to score freely if the stumps are attacked constantly.

England vs Australia Highlights, Women's World Cup 2025: Australia extended their unbeaten run at the ICC Women’s World Cup with a commanding six-wicket win over England in Indore on Wednesday. The victory was built around a record unbeaten 180-run stand between all-rounders Annabel Sutherland and Ashleigh Gardner, who guided their side home after early jitters in a 245-run chase.

England, opting to bat, were limited to 244/9 as Australia’s bowling unit kept control despite Tammy Beaumont’s fighting 79 off 108 balls. Sutherland (3/60), Gardner (2/39), Alana King (1/20) and Sophie Molineux (2/52) shared the wickets to ensure the total remained below par.

Australia’s reply got off to a poor start at 24/3 as Linsey Smith and Lauren Bell made early inroads. But Sutherland, who missed a century by two runs with an unbeaten 98, and Gardner, who struck a fluent 104 not out, rebuilt with maturity and authority. Their partnership shut England out of the contest, taking Australia to victory with 57 balls to spare.

Earlier, Beaumont gave England a brisk start with boundaries on both sides of the wicket and later stitched useful stands with Heather Knight (20) and Sophia Dunkley (22). But consistent strikes from Australia’s spinners derailed England’s middle order.

With the win, Australia not only stayed unbeaten but also reclaimed the top spot on the points table, once again underlining their depth and composure under pressure.wicket-taker in women’s ODIs. Katherine Sciver-Brunt tops the list with 170 scalps.
