The beneficiaries of Goa's 'Mhaje Ghar' scheme may soon no longer have to run from office to office for ownership papers.This development comes after chief minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday announced that legal ownership documents for ancestral homes covered under the scheme will be delivered directly to beneficiaries' doorsteps within the next six months, providing long-awaited relief to thousands of families across the state.While addressing a state-level programme in Panaji to distribute the documents, Sawant said, "The process to regularise the houses under this scheme has been taken up on a war front across Goa."He added that the government will ensure that in the next six months, the documents regularising the houses will be delivered at the doorstep of each beneficiary.Several beneficiaries were distributed the documents in the presence of ministers Atanasio Monserratte, Rohan Khaunte, Nilkant Halarnkar, and others.What is the Mhaje Ghar schemeThe Majhe Ghar Yojana is a Goa government initiative to provide legal ownership to people living in homes built on government or community land. It was launched in October 2025 by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.The scheme includes an amendment to Goa Legislative Diploma No. 2070 (2025), which allows homes built on comunidade (community) land before February 28, 2014, by landless individuals to be regularised.The administrator must address any objections within 30 days of the notice period before approving regularisation on government land.Misuse carries penalties.
