Earlier it was believed that to keep heart health in check, walking 10k steps was a non-negotiable. This year, the hyped benchmark of walking 10,000 steps was widely challenged by many health experts. In fact, in the middle of the year, a study published in The Lancet found that those who walked around 7000 daily steps had a 25% lower risk of cardiovascular disease.

This year, many doctors took to social media to make people aware that numbers beyond cholesterol should also be tracked. This also highlighted the importance of including more fiber in the diet. Experts also emphasised how gut health has a relation to many of the bodily functions.
