Hair fall remains one of the most common beauty concerns for all genders across the globe. People every year spend heavily on hair serums, supplements, and salon treatments in search of a solution, but some only deliver disappointment and no results. But long before the complicated hair-care routines, renowned hairstylist Jawed Habib advocated for simple and accessible remedies that could be tried at home. One such throwback haircare tip is now resurfacing online, reminding beauty enthusiasts to believe in the power of natural remedies rather than expensive manufactured chemicals. In an Instagram video by Campus Reporter, the popular hairstylist recommended people to apply mustard oil on wet hair before shampooing. It can be applied to wet hair for 10 minutes before rinsing it with shampoo or reetha, which is Indian soapberry.

Javed Habib further explains in Hindi and says, “Dandruff is like poison for the hair, and you have to wash it daily." He then went on to explain the whole method and said, “You will wash it my way." "What is the method? You wet your hair first because oil doesn't work on dry hair, so wet your hair. Then use mustard oil.
Don't massage it, but leave it on for 5-10 minutes and then wash it off. You can either use shampoo or soap, or reetha, depending on your choice. However, you must do it daily. Do it daily, and your hair will never break. No one's hair usually breaks before the age of 50. If your hair is breaking, you are not following me."Habib also explained the need to wash your hair every day, as it prevents hair breakage and also prevents natural hair loss before you hit the age of 50. Let’s quickly take a look at the benefits of applying mustard oil on the scalp and strands.
For centuries, mustard oil has been commonly used in traditional Indian hair care. Because of its high nutrient content, this oil has many nourishing benefits. Mustard oil also contains omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E, antioxidants, and essential minerals to create a healthy scalp and may help produce stronger-looking hair. Mustard oil is not a cure for hair loss; however, using it on a daily basis will promote better conditions in which to grow/maintain healthy hair. Last but not least, mustard oil can irritate the skin of some sensitive individuals. If you have any concerns about sensitive skin, always conduct a patch test first before applying mustard oil directly onto your scalp.
