Maharashtra, Jharkhand Election 2024: FIR filed against Vinod Tawde, BJP alleges conspiracy

The Election Commission (EC) has taken serious note of complaints from the Congress and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) over a "misleading and malicious" video shared by the Jharkhand BJP on social media. On Sunday, the EC instructed the state’s Chief Electoral Officer to order the BJP to take down the contentious post. The commission has also sought an explanation from the state BJP for allegedly violating the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by posting the video. The development follows a complaint lodged by the Congress with the Election Commission, accusing the BJP of carrying out a "communal and divisive" campaign in the state. The Congress has demanded strict action against the party, with the complaint coming just days ahead of the second and final phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections, slated for November 20.The Commission has also sought official responses from both party presidents by 1 pm on Monday, November 18, 2024 in view of the EC's previous advisory dated May 22, 2024, issued during Lok Sabha Elections, which pointed out maintaining control over star campaigners and leaders to ensure public decorum and strict adherence to MCC during election campaigns.Follow TOI for latest updates:
