Maharashtra govt formation live updates: SC to hear Sena-Congress-NCP petition at 11:30 am today

In the wake of dramatic political developments in the state, security has been beefed up at offices of political parties and leaders' residences to prevent untoward incidents, an official said on Saturday. Devendra Fadnavis took oath as Chief Minister of Maharashtra and NCP leader Ajit Pawar was sworn in as his deputy at Raj Bhavan here. There is heavy police deployment outside NCP chief Sharad Pawar's residence Silver Oak, the official said, adding that the police have placed barricades to restrict movement of vehicles in the area.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik on Saturday said that the government formed under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will fail in the floor test in Maharashtra Assembly. "The entire government formation episode is a facade. They will lose on the floor of Vidhan Sabha. All MLAs are with us," Malik told reporters here. Malik also took a veiled attack at Ajit Pawar who took oath as Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and said that NCP had taken signatures from MLAs for attendance which were later misused. Amruta Fadnavis on Saturday congratulated her husband Devendra Fadnavis and NCP leader Ajit Pawar on taking oath as the new Maharashtra Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister respectively."Congratulations Shri @Dev_Fadnavis & Shri @AjitPawarSpeaks! You have done it!" she tweeted.
