Coronavirus live updates: India reports over 3k Covid deaths for 4th day

India on Friday posted a record daily rise of over 3.86 lakh new Covid-19 cases and continued to post over 3,000 deaths for the third consecutive day, as per Union health ministry data updated at 8 am. With 386,452 new cases recorded on Friday, India's tally of total Covid-19 cases now stands at 1,87,62,976, the highest since the pandemic started in 2019. The death jumped by 3,498 over the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 2,08,330, according to the health ministry data. Stay with TOI for all the updates on coronavirus

Additional secretary Sumita Dawra, who heads the oxygen procurement and supply coordination tram at Centre, says it did not receive any enhanced demand for oxygen from Delhi government. Yet, the Centre provided 100MT more oxygen to Delhi on its own keeping in mind the situation.

Centre tells SC that there is more than adequate stock of oxygen in India to meet the demand and all exigencies. “There is no need to panic. Transportation is an issue faced by states. Centre is pitching in to solve it. Oxygen supply will be smooth soon,” official Sumita Dawra told SC.

SC says it is not criticising Centre and understands that Delhi’s oxygen deficiency could be because of Delhi govt’s inability to lift required O2. “Forget about inability of lifting by Delhi govt, Centre has to push through as it has special responsibility for Delhi,” it said.
