Coronavirus live updates: Covid-19 vaccination phase 2 to cover 60% of people
India's Covid-19 caseload rose to 96.44 lakh, while the total number of people who have recuperated from the disease crossed 91 lakh pushing the national recovery rate to 94.37 per cent, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday. The United States recorded over 214,000 new Covid-19 cases on Friday alone, pushing the seven-day average daily increase to an all-time high of nearly 180,000 cases. A total of 214,099 cases and 2,439 deaths were reported across the nation on Friday, according to data updated by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Russia registers new single-day record of 29,039 Covid-19 cases
Russia has registered a new single-day record for Covid-19 cases for the second consecutive day as 29,039 new positive tests were confirmed by the federal response center on Sunday, bringing the country's case total to 2,460,770.

Bengal woman, days away from turning 100, recovers from Covid-19
A month shy of 100, Bhabatarini Samanta had to battle the deadliest of foes in the path of her becoming a centenarian - the coronavirus. And, she mananged to get the better of it, stunning doctors and family members alike. Samanta, at 99 years and 11 months, was admitted to a designated Covid-19 hospital in Fuleswar area on November 24 with fever and breathing trouble.

S. Korea tightens social distancing rules to stem coronavirus spike
South Korea's government tightened social distancing requirements in the capital Seoul on Sunday, Yonhap news agency said, as the country grapples with the highest coronavirus infections in nine months. South Korea reported 631 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, bringing the country's total tally to 37,546, with 545 deaths, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency reported.

Pfizer India has become the first pharmaceutical firm to approach the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) seeking an emergency use authorisation for its Covid-19 vaccine in the country. It is to be noted that Pfizer India's parent company Pfizer has already got emergency-use clearance in the United Kingdom and Bahrain.

Arunachal Pradesh reports 17 new Covid-19 cases
Seventeen more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, pushing the tally in the state to 16,384, a senior health department official said here on Sunday. Of the 17 fresh cases, six were reported from the Capital Complex region, three from Tawang and two from Upper Siang, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

Indonesia's social affairs minister turned himself in to anti-corruption authorities Sunday to face charges of taking bribes related to the government's Covid-19 aid distribution. Social Affairs Minister Juliari Batubara arrived at the Corruption Eradication Commission's headquarters in the capital, Jakarta, hours after the commission's Chairman Firli Bahuri called on him to surrender in a news conference just before midnight Saturday.

Germany's confirmed coronavirus cases rise by 17,767 - RKI
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany increased by 17,767 to 1,171,323, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases showed on Sunday. The reported death toll rose by 255 to 18,772, the tally showed.
