Coronavirus live updates: Shops will remain open between 5am to noon during Bengaluru lockdown
India's Covid-19 caseload has crossed the 8.5 lakh mark. The rapid spread of the pandemic has seen the country's share in daily global cases rise to 12%. Late last night, actor Amitabh Bachchan, son Abhishek tested positive for Covid-19 and were hospitalised. Their residence 'Jalsa' has now been declared a containment zone.

Quarantine facilities to be set up at Kolkata's Eden Gardens
In a bid to combat COVID-19, quarantine facilities for police personnel will be set up at Eden Gardens, said Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Avishek Dalmiya. In a video message on Saturday, Dalmiya said that the decision has been taken after a meeting between Kolkata Police and CAB officials.

US President Donald Trump wore a face mask in public for the first time Saturday, finally yielding to intense pressure to set a public health example as the coronavirus rampages across America. Trump had on a dark mask featuring the presidential seal as he walked through the corridors of Walter Reed military hospital outside Washington to meet with wounded veterans.

Corona Kavach cover premium starts at Rs 447
A host of insurance companies have launched a specialized health insurance cover, Corona Kavach, for Covid-19, valid for a short-term with premium starting at Rs 447. Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, Max Bupa, HDF Ergo and Bharti Axa announced the pricing on Friday and others are expected to follow.

Chemist, aide blackmarketing remdesivir held
A Mumbai pharmacist and his accomplice were arrested for blackmarketing remdesivir, the main medicine undergoing trials as a possible treatment for the disease. A private Bandra hospital’s in-house pharmacy, from where the injections were allegedly sneaked out, is under the scanner. Though the drug is available only through government and hospital channels, kin of patients are procuring it illegally in desperation.

Amid a rapid surge in Covid-19 cases in the state capital and signs of the contact-tracing model crumbling, Karnataka CM B S Yediyurappa on Saturday announced a complete lockdown in Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts from 8pm on July 14 to 5am on July 22. Several other cities and towns — from Maharashtra in the west to Guwahati and Shillong in the Northeast – on Saturday got either an extension or a return to lockdown.

Drug regulator Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved Itolizumab, for restricted emergency use on Covid-19 patients with moderate to severe acute respiratory distress. Itolizumab is already in use to cure skin ailment psoriasis. Drug maker Biocon has been selling the medicine under brand Alzumab in India for psoriasis since 2013.
