Coronavirus in India: West Bengal reports 14,281 new Covid-19 cases, highest one-day spike

Fresh cases once again touched a new peak of 3.46 lakh in a single day in India while deaths hit a grim new record of 2,600 on Friday. India has now reported close to a million new cases (9.94 lakh) in just three days, while Friday was also the fourth day in a row in which India reported more than 2,000 deaths in 24 hours. Coronavirus: German leader defends 'tough' new restrictions

Chancellor Angela Merkel has urged Germans to accept nationwide pandemic restrictions that came into force at midnight, resulting in 10pm-5am curfews, further limits on personal contacts and access to non-essential stores in regions with high infection rates. In her weekly video address on Saturday, Merkel acknowledged that the new rules are "tough" but insisted they are needed to curb the spread of the virus in the country. Germany's disease control agency on Friday reported 23,392 newly confirmed cases and 286 deaths from Covid-19. Since the start of the pandemic, Germany has recorded almost 3.3 million cases and 81,444 deaths.

Admissions in Emergency dept, AIIMS Delhi were restricted for an hour as oxygen pipelines were being reorganized due to increased requirement of oxygen for Covid-19 patients. Currently around 100 Covid patients are already receiving treatment at the Emergency: AIIMS Delhi officials

Manmohan Singh recuperating well from Covid-19

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is recuperating well from Covid-19 infection at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), a Congress leader said on Saturday. "Singh is stable and is progressing well. He has had no episodes of fever," Congress general secretary and chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said. The former prime minister was admitted to the premier hospital with mild fever on April 19, after he tested positive for Covid-19. Singh, 88, had taken the two doses of Covid-19 vaccine on March 4 and April 3.
