UP minister Dharam Singh Saini resigns from cabinet, meets Akhilesh

Yogi likely to contest from Hindutva hub Ayodhya or home turf Gorakhpur

UP CM Yogi Adityanath is likely to contest the assembly elections from Ayodhya or his home turf, Gorakhpur, BJP sources have indicated. If this happens, Yogi will become the first chief minister of the state in the last 18 years to take a plunge in the electoral battle. Earlier, Mulayam had contested the Gunnaur bypoll in 2004. Yogi’s predecessors — Akhilesh Yadav and before him Mayawati— were member of the Upper House.

Onus on EC and police for free, fair Manipur polls: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Following killing of two persons in poll-bound Manipur three days back, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said the onus to ensure free and fair elections is on the Election Commission and the police. Speaking to reporters, Sarma said, "Earlier Assam Rifles jawans were killed. Targeted killings are happening (in Manipur). It is clear we need to be more vigilant."
