Story:Shambhala is set in a quiet village during the 1980s, where an unexpected meteor strike triggers a series of strange and unsettling events. As fear and folklore take hold of the locals, the village becomes a space where superstition begins to outweigh reason. Into this charged atmosphere arrives Vikram (Aadi Saikumar), a geoscientist and staunch rationalist, determined to investigate the phenomenon through logic and science. What unfolds is a mystery rooted in the clash between belief and evidence, faith and fear.Review: Director Ugandhar Muni establishes this conflict effectively in the opening portions. The initial stretch builds intrigue by positioning Vikram as an outsider whose skepticism directly challenges the villagers’ long-held superstitions. This friction forms the film’s strongest foundation, creating genuine tension and curiosity about whether science can explain what appears to be paranormal. The premise is compelling, and the eerie setting, aided by strong sound design and atmospheric visuals, draws viewers in.However, as the narrative progresses, the film struggles to sustain its momentum. The screenplay begins to circle the same ideas, resulting in a repetitive middle act that slows the pace considerably. Scenes that should escalate the mystery often linger longer than necessary, causing the tension to plateau instead of intensifying. While the thematic exploration of science versus superstition remains interesting, it isn’t always supported by sharp storytelling.Aadi Saikumar delivers a sincere and grounded performance, anchoring the film even when the narrative falters. His restrained portrayal of a rational man navigating an irrational environment lends credibility to the film’s core conflict. The supporting cast functions largely as extensions of the central theme, though their characters lack depth and development. The background score effectively amplifies the film’s mood and frequently compensates for narrative slack, while the visual treatment reinforces the sense of unease. Despite these strengths, the film ultimately feels weighed down by its sluggish screenplay.Shambhala remains a film with a strong idea at its heart — one that sparks thought but falls short of its full potential due to irregular pacing and stretched execution.— Sanjana Pulugurtha
