Esha Deol set to return to the big screen with horror-comedy 'Ghunghat'

Actor Esha Deol is preparing to step into a different creative space with her upcoming film 'GHUNGHAT'. The actress will be entering the horror-comedy genre for the first time in her career. While she has worked separately in comedy and horror films before, this project brings both elements together in one story.The film marks a fresh chapter in Esha's acting journey. It also adds a new challenge to her filmography. The actress has often experimented with different roles through the years, and GHUNGHAT now becomes another addition to that list. Recently, Esha shared her thoughts about taking up the project and explained what attracted her to the story. As quoted by IANS, she said, "GHUNGHAT is a completely new genre for me to explore. I have always enjoyed being part of comedies and have done horror earlier, but this is a mix of both. What I loved about the script is that along with the fun and spooky elements, it also carries a meaningful message. It's emotional, entertaining, and something very different for me as an actor."The film unfolds in a village called Jangipura. The location is surrounded by mystery and fear. At the center of the story is Bhuri, a spirit whose painful history slowly turns into a frightening curse for people living in the village. The narrative is expected to move through supernatural situations and suspenseful developments. At the same time, it also intends to balance lighter moments with emotional storytelling.Apart from supernatural themes, 'GHUNGHAT' is expected to include romance, fantasy and emotional situations. Makers appear to be aiming for a film that goes beyond conventional horror elements. The project has been directed by Rajiv S Ruia.Over the years, Esha gradually moved away from regular mainstream appearances. The actress focused more on her personal life and family responsibilities. She married businessman Bharat Takhtani in 2012. The couple later welcomed two daughters into their lives. In 2024, Esha and Bharat publicly announced their separation after spending more than a decade together. She belongs to one of Bollywood's most well-known film families. She is the daughter of veteran actors Dharmendra and Hema Malini.She made her acting debut with Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe in 2002. Through the years, she featured in films including 'Na Tum Jaano Na Hum', 'Dhoom', 'Yuva', 'Dus', 'No Entry', 'Cash' and 'Tell Me O Kkhuda'.
