Cellphones worth 1 lakh stolen from Thillai Nagar shop

The burglars struck at an outlet on 10th Cross Street at Thillai Nagar, a posh locality in the city. The incident came to light when Jeevamani, the shop owner opened the showroom on Tuesday morning. The steel shutter of the shop was found broken. On entering the shop, the owner found that several high-end smart phones were stolen from the showcase.

TRICHY: Unidentified people decamped with mobile phones worth about Rs1 lakh from two mobile phone outlets at Thillai Nagar and Ponmalai areas on Monday midnight. Police have started investigation to ascertain whether the accused involved in both the incidents are the same.

The incident came to light when Jeevamani, the shop owner opened the showroom on Tuesday morning. The steel shutter of the shop was found broken. On entering the shop, the owner found that several high-end smart phones were stolen from the showcase.
After receiving the information, Thillai Nagar police and the deputy commissioner of crime and traffic R Jayanthi rushed to the spot and enquired with the shop’s proprietor.
The investigation revealed that the burglars broke open the lock and gained entry into the shop. A total of 63 smart phones were stolen from the shop. The police said the thieves preferred only the smartphones and did not steal nearly 10 low-end mobile phones.
Finger print experts took the samples from the shop doors. Thillai Nagar police estimated the total worth of the phones to be Rs 1 lakh and have registered a case.
In a similar incident, a mobile and recharging outlet at Military Colony in Golden rock area was robbed on Monday midnight. The burglars broke open the shop and decamped with a few mobile phones. However, the intelligence section police said they haven’t received any communication regarding the case in Gold Rock police station.
