THANE: Saqib Nachan, the terror suspect arrested by the NIA in 2023 in the ISIS module case, who is lodged in Tihar Jail in Delhi, was admitted to a hospital in Delhi after his health suddenly deteriorated. His condition is said to be critical.
According to sources, after Nachan's health suddenly deteriorated in jail on Sunday, he was admitted to Deendayal Upadhyay Hospital in Delhi, where his condition is said to be critical.
After the jail officials informed his family in Borivali village, situated near Padgha in Bhiwandi of Thane District, Nachan's elder son, Aquib Nachan, went to Delhi to see his father.
Nachan has two sons, and one of them, Shamil, is also in jail in the ISIS module case, while his elder son, Aquib, was questioned by the NIA at his house earlier this month but was released.
The villagers of Borivali consider Nachan as their boss, and after the news of his serious condition, there is an atmosphere of sadness in the village.
In 2023, Nachan was arrested for what the National Investigation Agency described as self-assumed rights of administering the 'bayath'—oath of allegiance towards the Khalifa of ISIS to persons joining the group. Besides, investigations revealed that the accused declared the village of Padgha as a “liberated zone” and as 'Al Sham’ like Syria.
Saquib Nachan historyNachan was first convicted by the Supreme Court in 1997 for planning terror attacks in India in 1990 with Khalistani groups.
The second time, Nachan was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in jail in connection with three bomb blasts between 2002-03. These include the blast at the Mumbai Central railway station on December 6, 2002, injuring 22 people; at the market outside the Vile Parle suburban station on January 27, 2003, injuring 30 people; and inside a compartment of a local train that exploded at the Mulund railway station on March 13, 2003, killing 13 people and injuring around 80.
He was set free after completing the sentence. He was also arrested in August 2012 in connection to an attempted murder of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activist Manoj Raicha; however, he was released on bail in August 2014.
In 2023, Nachan was again arrested for what the National Investigation Agency described as self-assumed rights of administering the 'bayath'—oath of allegiance towards the Khalifa of ISIS to persons joining the group.
