Himachal government may legalise cannabis to give economy a boost

SHIMLA: Unable to limit the cultivation of cannabis, the Himachal government is considering legalising it for boosting revenue and economy. CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said a panel will explore this possibility based on legal framework, as hemp has medicinal and industrial uses as well.
The state government will build a regulatory mechanism and study cases from other states before taking a final call.
Sukhu said: "Our law will be based on complete information on the use of cannabis leaves and seeds. The Centre has also legalised the cultivation of cannabis in some districts of Rajasthan, MP, and UP."
