GAYA
: With just two ministerial berths in the Nitish government, the Magadh region is under-represented. In the last few years, politicians of the region have occupied very important offices, including that of the chief minister and Speaker. The two Magadh division MLAs who took oath on Friday are Awadhesh Kumar Singh from Wazirganj and Krishnanandan Verma from Ghoshi.
Three of the five districts of the division -Aurangabad, Arwal and Nawada – remain unrepresented.
Whereas Jitan Ram Manjhi was CM for nine months, Speaker Udai Narain Chaudhary occupied the constitutional position for the last 10 years.
Besides Chaudhary and Manjhi, other Magadh politicians to hold important positions in the recent past included Gaya Town MLA Prem Kumar and Aurangabad’s former MLA Ramadhar Singh. Both Kumar and Singh occupied ministerial positions from the BJP quota during the JD(U)-BJP coalition.
On non-induction of any RJD MLA from Magadh region, RJD’s Gaya district president Radhe Shyam Prasad said, “Lalu is the unchallenged leader and whatever decision he has taken must be in the interest of the party and the state.”
Congress leader Md Moosa of Magadh region, commenting on underrepresentation of the region said, the process of ministry formation is not final as seven vacancies are still there and more leaders would be inducted.
