Patna: The first phase of the 2027 Census, covering house listing and housing data, concluded on Sunday in the Patna district. Under the jurisdiction of the Patna Municipal Corporation, official data captured a population of 1,685,037 across 3,14,478 households. Additionally, supervisors verified 2,87,650 households in Census, which began on May 2.
The municipality recorded 4,59,230 Census houses. The highest number of Census houses was recorded in the Patliputra circle (1,14,546) and the lowest in the Patna City circle (40,566). The data shows 2,92,788 wholly residential houses, 10,961 partly residential houses and 70,433 vacant houses. There were 8,418 locked houses, and 85,048 units were put to other uses. Occupied residential houses totalled 3,03,740.
PMC’s additional principal census officer, Krishna Swaroop, said 80% of all 3,001 house listing blocks were completed by May 25. Within PMC, officials divided 75 wards into enumeration blocks, and more than 5,000 officers were collectively working on it, combining on-ground and supervising work to collect all data within the deadline. The highest number of vacant census houses was found in the Patliputra (28,585) and New Capital (16,961) circles because these circles contain the maximum number of apartments, and the people living here are mostly tenants, said Swaroop.
Patna DM-cum-principal census officer, Thiyagarajan S M, oversaw 40 charge Census officers, whereas the Patna municipal commissioner, Yashpal Meena, managed six urban circle charges covering 75 wards in the Patna municipality area.
