Probe on to identify man killed over suspicion of child lifting
Nashik: The Jalgaon police have formed two teams to ascertain the identity of an unidentified man, around 30 years of age, who was killed by a group of people after they suspected him of being a child lifter in Avhane village on Monday evening.SP Ashok Nakhate said that till Wednesday evening, the police were not able to ascertain the identity of the deceased man, but nonetheless they were making efforts for the same.

The Jalgaon taluka police registered a case of murder and arrested six people in connection with the killing. The accused were remanded in police custody till March 2, Nakhate said.Inspector Shashikant Patil, of the Jalgaon taluka police station, said, "Two teams are working on tracing the identity of the victim. One team is of the Local Crime Branch (LCB) as well.""We are checking footage of all the CCTVs that were installed on roads in and around the crime spot to ascertain from where he came from. Apart from this, we have also prepared an image of the victim and are showing it to people in and around the village and also at locations like godowns," said Patil.On Monday, around 8.15 pm, the Jalgaon taluka police got a call from the sarpanch of Avhane village, who stated that some people were beating up an unidentified person. A police team rushed to the spot and found the man badly wounded, with injury marks on his face, head and limbs. He was not able to speak. The unidentified man was immediately taken to the Jalgaon Civil Hospital.During the course of the investigation, the police came to know that the man had picked up a three-year-old boy and was spotted walking away. As a result, the boy's father and four to five other people beat him up.
