Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The maximum temperature in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and other cities from Marathwada was hovering above the 40°C-mark on Sunday.
While Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar recorded a maximum of 40.4°C -- above normal by more than two units -- Parbhani registered the highest temperature in the region with mercury level reaching 41.7°C.Among other Marathwada cities, Dharashiv reported 40°C. Among different cities in Maharashtra, Akola recorded the highest maximum temperature of 43.1°C, whereas Nashik and Kolhapur recorded 39.5°C and 39°C, respectively.
Health experts have advised caution to avoid heat stress and other adverse impacts on rising mercury levels. "Avoid going out in the sun, especially during the afternoon. Staying hydrated is a key during summer and therefore one should drink sufficient water even if not thirsty.Covering ears and head with light-coloured cotton clothes is highly advised and so is the use of umbrellas," Sanjay Patne, a general physician, said.
Patne said physical labour should be avoided as far as possible during the peak summer period. "In case of possible sunstroke, medical care should be sought. As a first aid, the person should be kept in a cold place and sponging must be done. Offering ORS or home-made drinks is also recommended while taking the person to the nearest health center," he said.
