Nashik: A doctor with the Nashik civil hospital has been booked for abetting the suicide of his wife, an ayurveda practitioner, after his sister-in-law filed a complaint alleging that he had an affair with another woman doctor, which drove her sister to end her life. No arrest has been made in the case so far.
The ayurveda practitioner was found hanging when the doctor (husband) returned home with their two daughters, aged 14 and 9, after picking them up from school. With no suicide note found at the spot, the police initially registered a case of accidental death.
On Sunday, however, the younger sister of the deceased lodged a complaint alleging that her brother-in-law had an affair with another woman doctor from the civil hospital, who frequently visited their residence. She stated that her sister was repeatedly hurt by this and had confronted her husband several times about the relationship.
The complainant further alleged that the ayurveda practitioner faced harassment and was also publicly humiliated by her husband on at least one occasion. The complainant told police that the mental and emotional distress caused by this led her sister to end her life.
Eventually, the Gangapur police have registered a case of suicide abetment under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the husband. "The matter is under investigation," the police added.
