NAGPUR: The Nagpur bench of Bombay high court on Tuesday asked the petitioner to approach appropriate forum regarding the proposed Gondia government medical college. The court's directives came after Medical Council of India (MCI) said the Supreme Court has formulated the entire timetable for medical admissions as well as conducting inspections which it can't change on its own. The guidelines were framed while hearing the case of Priya Gupta against the Chhattisgarh government.
The MCI added that the deadline for inspection of new colleges has already expired. It was extended only a couple of times in exceptional cases concerning old colleges. A division bench comprising Justices Bhushan Gavai and Sunil Shukre then asked the petitioner's counsels - Jugalkishor Gilda and Amit Madiwale - to approach the apex court with their grievances.
The PIL was filed by
Congress MLA from Gondia, Gopaldas Agrawal, challenging apex body for medical education's refusal to conduct inspection of Gondia GMC, citing delay on the part of the Maharashtra government to file documents related to compliance of all conditions.
