NAGPUR: The film Girl Gang of Telia also known as ‘Tigress Blood’ on four tiger sisters of Telia in Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) has won the ‘best editing’ award at the 62nd National Film Awards in the non-feature film category announced on Tuesday.
The film was produced by Uday Sinh Wala, chief executive officer (CEO) of KOSMIK Global Media, Mumbai.
It was edited by Andi Campbell Waite, a freelance editor. There were 171 entries in all in 23 different languages. Andi told TOI, “I feel truly honoured to have won this prestigious award. When I first heard the news I was so surprised I thought it was a joke!”
“When you begin editing any film, your sole aim is to produce the best film you can from the material you have— the last thing you have on your mind is potential for awards or recognition. From the outset, I could see there was a unique story within the rushes that was just itching to be told. With that as a starting point, how could we fail,” he asked.
Asked about how challenging was it to edit the film? He said in any project there were often differences of opinion. At times, during the editing of Tigress Blood, opinions were poles apart — between the cutting room in Bristol and the executives on the other side of the pond. But, in a funny sort of way, perhaps it was this division that ultimately fuelled and focused creativity in the edit to deliver the film we have today.
Sharing best experience while editing Tigress Blood, Andi said, “It is difficult to pinpoint a single best experience but everything about working with Akanksha Sood Singh, Praveen Singh, Uday and the rest of the team at Kosmik was an absolute treat.”
