Mumbai Rain Live Updates: MU exams postponed, schools, colleges shut following 'red' alert for heavy showers

Heavy rains and low visibility hit flight operations at Mumbai airport on Wednesday morning. The disruption began in the early hours after poor visibility led to suspension of runway operations from 2.22am to 3.40 am, said a source.

• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai.
• Additionally, at 1.57pm today, there will be a 4.40 m high tide in the sea.
• In view of this, as a precautionary measure and to avoid inconvenience to students, all BMC schools, government schools, and private medium schools and colleges in Mumbai will remain closed for the second session as well.

• The BMC said some areas in Mumbai received more than 300 mm rainfall from 1am to 7am on Monday.
• The highest 315 rainfall in this period was recorded in Govandi area
• The second highest 314 mm rainfall in Powai area.

• Due to water logging at various places, train services on Main line Down & Up Fast line between CSMT - Thane is suspended. However, Down & Up slow lines are running.
• Harbour line services are temporarily suspended due to waterlogging at Chunnabhati.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed its teams in Mumbai and surrounding areas following heavy rainfall that caused severe waterlogging. Anticipating potential flood-like situations, teams have been positioned in various locations to respond promptly. The India Meteorological Department has forecasted light to moderate spells of rain in Mumbai over the next three hours.

• Main Line: Train services are operational. However, due to heavy rains and waterlogging between Bhandup and Nahur, trains are being managed manually by clamping and padlocking the points. Clamping was completed at 6:45am.
• Harbour Line: Services are running normally.

• The IMD Santacruz Observatory recorded 268 mm of rainfall in Mumbai in a 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Monday, July 8, while the IMD Colaba recorded 84 mm.
• Other areas in Mumbai reported significant rainfall, including Vikhroli with 184 mm, Dahisar with 181 mm, Ram Mandir with 178 mm, Chembur with 190 mm, Sion with 205 mm, Matunga with 159 mm, and Byculla with 128 mm.
• Thane has recorded 128 mm rains in the 24 hours ending 830am July 8.

Mumbai and its suburbs continued to receive heavy rainfall on Monday morning. Mumbai city recorded over 300mm rainfall at various places in a six-hour period from 1am to 7am today. Heavy rains in some low-lying areas led to waterlogging and disruption of suburban train services.
