MUMBAI: What was supposed to be an exchange of jokes between friends ended with a Bhayander man killing one of his pal.
Mangesh Pawar (36) and Dhanesh Patil (30) both residents of Shivneri Nagar of Rai village in Bhayander (west) along with a group of friends were joking and having a fun time at around 11.45 pm on August 14.
The group did not realise when the joke turned ugly.

Patil was irritated with Pawar making him the centre of the jokes. In a fit of anger, he picked up a huge stone lying on the road and smashed it on Pawar's head.
Even as a bleeding Pawar, an auto rickshaw driver, lay on the road, Patil and the other friends fled from the spot. Pawar was noticed by some locals who informed his family and rushed him to the nearby Tunga hospital where he was declared dead. The autopsy report stated that the victim had died due to head injuries caused by a heavy object.
On investigation, the Bhayander police found that Pawar and Patil were spotted by locals on the night of the incident. Questioning of his friends revealed the name of Patil, who was absconding after the crime. Pawar was the sole bread winner of the family. Patil was booked under section 302 (murder) of the IPC. He was remanded to police custody till August 22 by the Thane sessions court.
