Mumbai: College managements of
Maharashtra that moved court against All India Council for Technical Education are now claiming that they are being served with notices of inspection by the regulatory body. They have demanded that Bombay High Court strike down
AICTE’s notice to bring BBA, BMS, BCA under its ambit.
AICTE stated other states too have moved court against it and asked HC to bunch all petitions and said it would move Supreme Court. However, colleges said the last date to apply for AICTE approval was Feb 26 and demanded that HC question the regulatory body as to why it was sending inspection notices.
“According to us, these courses have been carved out of commerce and science. We see these courses are out of AICTE jurisdiction,” said Sudhakar Jadhavar, president, Maharashtra State Unaided Colleges Association. “What perplexes us is under the new education policy, all regulatory bodies like AICTE are going to be done away with, then why are they disturbing current setup...?” he asked. “As per AICTE, we would need 23 rooms to run the courses. Currently, most colleges operate these out of 4 or 5 classrooms, norms specify a separate principal...,” said Jadhavwar. In Mumbai, T A Shiware, president, Mumbai College Principals’ Federation, has written to state for permission to alter nomenclature of the courses. — Hemali Chhapia
