Madurai: Four days on, police are yet to trace the accused involved in the murder of a Class XII girl in Tuticorin district.
On March 10 evening, a 17-year-old girl went outside to answer nature's call in a village in Tuticorin. Since she did not return home, her parents lodged a missing complaint. The Kulathur police registered a case and investigated.
On March 11 afternoon, police found the girl murdered near a bus stop, 300m away from her house. Subsequently, the case was altered under Section 103 (murder) of the BNS. The Tuticorin district police constituted 10 special teams to nab the accused, but have not succeeded so far.
Meanwhile, MDMK chief Vaiko visited the house of the deceased girl and expressed his condolences to the family members on Saturday.
He urged the state govt to bear the educational expenses of the girl's sibling. After graduation, the govt should provide suitable employment to the sibling.
It maybe recalled that advocate K Mareeshwari of Tuticorin district filed a public interest litigation before the
Madras high court on Friday, seeking to transfer the investigation in the case to the CBI. The petitioner also sought a direction to the state to pay compensation to her family members. The court directed the state to file a status report and posted the matter for hearing on Monday.
