Madurai: Deputy mayor T Nagarajan and Madurai corporation commissioner Gaurav Kumar, carried out an inspection of the drainage and underground sewerage project activities in and around the four Avani Moola Streets and North Masi Street near the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple on Tuesday.They also inspected the ongoing work for a new urban primary health centre being developed in Sundararajapuram at an estimated cost of Rs1.5 crore. The centre is planned with updated facilities, including rooms for doctor, nurse, laboratory, pharmacy, maternity, and an emergency treatment section.They also inspected the Avaniyapuram Vellakkal waste collection centre, where around 900 tonnes of waste is handled each day. The inspection covered the procedures used for separating plastics and other waste, a review of staff at work, vehicles deployed for solid waste management, recycling activities, and the composting area. The commissioner additionally checked the day-to-day operations and functioning of the wastewater treatment plant at Vellakkal.
