Madurai: The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry submitted a memorandum to Union minister for commerce and industry
Piyush Goyal in Madurai on Sunday, seeking measures to transform the city and southern Tamil Nadu into a diversified industrial hub.
President of the body N Jegatheesan highlighted Madurai's potential and emphasised leveraging the upcoming AIIMS Madurai project to build a healthcare and medical research ecosystem. He urged the govt to prioritise the Madurai-Tuticorin and Chennai-Kanyakumari industrial corridors and establish a multimodal logistics park to support MSMEs.
Jegatheesan said the proposed 1,052-acre PM MITRA park in Virudhunagar will attract Rs 10,000 crore investments and generate three lakh jobs. He also sought a mega food park in rural areas and modernisation of tourism centres in the region. He highlighted the region's potential to tap solar energy and green industrial development.
The TNCCI requested a special package for southern Tamil Nadu, streamlined single-window clearances of projects and enhanced export facilitation.
