Ludhiana: In a major crackdown, the Ludhiana commissionerate police, in coordination with the health department, conducted a massive raid at an illegal de-addiction center operating in Sareeh village. The targeted operation resulted in the rescue of several victims and the initiation of strict legal proceedings against the management. The raid was executed under the direct supervision of the ACP South and the Crime Branch Ludhiana, with additional support from Police Station Dehlon teams.
To ensure technical and medical compliance, a specialised team from the Health Department participated, including the SMO, the Medical Officer from Sahnewal, and the Drug Inspector. During the inspection, it was discovered that the center was operating without any valid permit, license, or mandatory approvals. Furthermore, the facility lacked the necessary medical infrastructure and professional oversight required to treat individuals struggling with substance abuse.
Prioritising the health and safety of the occupants, the joint team successfully relieved the victims held at the unauthorised facility.
They have since been shifted to civil hospitals in Jagraon and Ludhiana for immediate medical check-ups and ongoing treatment. Commissioner of police Swapan Sharma stated that the department is committed to shutting down unregulated centers that exploit vulnerable citizens.
He further informed that, following a detailed technical report from the Drug Inspector, rigorous legal action will be finalised against the perpetrators under relevant sections of the law. The Ludhiana Police urges the public to remain vigilant and report any unauthorised centers operating in their localities to ensure the safety and proper treatment of those seeking recovery. This coordinated effort marks a significant step in the city's ongoing battle against unregulated medical facilities.
