Ludhiana: After a four-month struggle for justice, a mother has finally secured an FIR in the suicide case of her married daughter. On December 1, 2025, a 35-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Aman Nagar. Following the investigation, the police have booked the deceased's mother-in-law and sister-in-law. The accused are residents of Aman Nagar and Mullanpur. They face charges under BNS sections 85 for cruelty by husband or relatives, 351 for criminal intimidation, and 56 for abetment of an offence.The deceased had been married for approximately 18 years. According to the complainant, the deceased's mother, her daughter was persistently harassed by the mother-in-law and sister-in-law over various issues. The mother claimed the duo harassed her daughter to such an extreme extent that she felt compelled to take her own life on December 1, 2025.When questioned regarding the four-month delay in lodging the FIR, the mother explained that the family had made several unsuccessful rounds to the Sarabha Nagar police station where officials initially refused to listen to their plea. The breakthrough occurred only after the family sought legal counsel from an advocate who escorted them to the Commissioner of Police.
It was only after this high-level intervention that the formal case was finally registered. The investigating officer stated that the police have now registered the case following a detailed inquiry into the matter. This development marks a significant turn for the family who spent months navigating administrative hurdles to ensure that the circumstances leading to the death were formally investigated by the local authorities.
