MALAPPURAM: Excise authorities in Kuttippuram have seized total of 5.6 kg ganja during a special inspection conducted in train at Kuttippuram railway station on Monday evening. Four persons have been arrested in connection with seizure of the narcotic substance.
The arrested have been identified as Shiva, 33, native of Tiruppur in Tamiladu, Sooraj, and Sourav, natives of Atholi in Kozhikode and Mibinul Haque, native of Valavannur in Malappuram district.
According to Excise authorities, It was following the special direction from deputy excise commissioner of Malappuram that the Excise team and Railway intelligence crime squad conducted joint raid in Coimbatore-Mangaluru passenger train at Kuttippuram station around 5pm on Monday. Excise authorities had received an information regarding the illegal transportation of ganja item to Malappuram from
Tamil Nadu by train. The team which conducted detailed inspection in train managed to seize a total 4.5 kg ganja from Siva and he has already confessed that the narcotic materials are from Kambam and Theni regions in Tamilnadu.
According to Excise authorities Siva is a whole sale distributor of Ganja in Malabar districts and he is accused of five cases related to Ganja seizure which were registered in coimbatore, Erode and Tirupur police stations in Tamil Nadu. The authorities have informed that they have got valid clue on the mafia which is behind the distribution of ganja items from Tamil Nadu in Malabar region and more persons would be arrested soon. Excise team seized a total of 250 gram ganja each from Sourav and Sooraj, when the team seized 600 gram ganja from Mubinul Haque.
In another similar incident excise team in Parappanngadi seized 100 gram ganja and arrested a person. The arrested was K P Rafi, native of Ariyallur in the district.
