KMC House debate reaches HC
Kolkata: Fearing drainage issues during monsoon due to stalling of day-to-day functioning of KMC and the deferment of 54th Corporation meeting after the change in political party in the state govt, KMC chairperson Mala Roy moved Calcutta High Court on Friday. The matter might be taken up for hearing on June 3.The matter was mentioned before the division bench of Justice Krishna Rao and Justice Reetobroto Kumar Mitra. It was stated that with the onset of monsoon, civic issues will increase; meetings would be necessary for preparedness.Roy, on May 11, had issued a notice for convening a meeting on May 22. But it was found that the municipal secretary on May 21 had deferred it due to “unavoidable circumstances”. The petition claimed that the municipal secretary had no authority to defer it. It was also stated that the council chamber in the central municipal office was locked.Roy prayed for directions for smooth functioning of the corporation and that the municipal secretary’s notice of May 21 be set aside.
