KOLKATA: The state has urged the Centre to reintroduce commercial flights between Kolkata and Cooch Behar. In a letter sent on Monday to civil aviation minister Syed Shahnawaz Hussain, state industry minister Nirupam Sen said that the flights would benefit the people in Bhutan, Sikkim and north Bengal connected with trade and commerce.
“I have been given to understand that Indian Airlines has commenced service from Kolkata to Silchar, Shillong, Agartala and other parts of the north-eastern states with the help of newly acquired 50-seater ATM 42 jets.

It is also reported that Sahara Airlines has acquired 20 jets of similar capacity for operating along similar routes,� he wrote, reminding that it would not be inappropriate to start a flight between Kolkata and Cooch Behar.
