Kolhapur: A 28-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl were found dead hanging from a tree, from a single rope, in a forest area roughly half a kilometre away from the main road at Tarsambale village in Kolhapur's Radhanagari tehsil on Friday.
A case has been registered at the Radhanagari police station, and the police suspect the couple ended their life because of problems in their love affair.
As per the Radhanagari police, Gurunath Kamble, the police patil of Tarsambale village, received a phone call on Friday informing him about the suicide. When Gurunath went to the spot to verify the information, he spotted the bodies of a man and a woman hanging from a rope in the forest limits on the Dhamod-Durgmanwad road. The police patil immediately informed the Radhanagari police station, and within minutes, the police reached the spot.
Inspector Santosh Gore said, "Looking at the condition of the bodies, it is estimated they died at least three days ago. A foul smell had spread in the vicinity. Medical officers from Rashiwade primary health centre arrived at the scene and performed an autopsy on the bodies. After that, we handed over the bodies to the families of the deceased for cremation. Our primary suspicion is that they might have ended their lives due to problems in their love affair. Further investigation is ongoing."
