Kolhapur: In a bid to act against unauthorised transportation of wooden logs, the Kolhapur forest department took action against two individuals and seized vehicles and articles from them.
Range forest officer for Karvir, Nandkumar Nalawade, said, "On Jan 30, while patrolling in Hatkanangale tehsil, a tractor MH 51 A 2877 and a trolley (without number plate) were found transporting wood on the Vadgaon-Tasgaon road. At that time, when the tractor driver, Sudarshan Arun Biranje, resident of Nagaon, was asked for the transport licence required for transporting wood, he said he did not have a transport licence. Accordingly, tractor driver Sudarshan Biranje and the wood owner, Pawan Mahadev Londhe, resident of Nagaon village, were booked. The tractor, and wood worth Rs11 lakh were seized and taken into custody."
In the second case, Gadhinglaj forest department seized building material, wooden logs, and the trolley vehicle, collectively worth Rs3,06,735. The driver was booked.
Range forest officer for Ajara, Sachin Sawant said, "On Friday noon, when we were passing through the Dhamane-Uttur road after extinguishing the fire in forest land number 269 B, a tractor and a trolley, both without number plates, were seen moving suspiciously in Mouje Uttur village. When the driver was questioned about the licence, the driver denied having a licence. It was prima facie proven that the building materials and timber in the said vehicle were being transported without a licence. Accordingly, the building material, wood, and the materials were seized, and a case was registered against the vehicle driver."
