anpur: A district-level road safety committee meeting was held at the new auditorium at Sarsaiya Ghat under the chairmanship of District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh on Saturday. DdHe said road safety was not only the responsibility of the dministration but also a collective responsibility of society, and that reducing the number of accidents was not possible without public awareness.
The District Magistrate appealed to parents not to allow their minor children to drive vehicles under any circumstances. He said 12 challans were issued so far this year in cases where minors were found driving vehicles. He also directed that a special campaign be launched against bike riders performing stunts in the Ganga Barrage area. The meeting directed that arrangements should be made to ensure ambulances reach the most accident-prone locations within 5 minutes and emergency medical services at govt hospitals located on such routes be strengthened. ,mhe District Magistrate also emphasised establishing Road Safety Clubs in schools and colleges and running extensive public awareness campaigns.
The health department officials said nine hospitals in the district were identified under the Pradhanmantri Rahat Jan Arogya Yojana: Vedanta Hospital, Delta Hospital, Ashirya Hospital, Chandni Hospital, Ujala Cygnus Kulwanti Hospital, Narayana Hospital, Ramadevi Medical Centre Private Limited, Rama Hospital and Research Centre, and Rama Hospital. The meeting also reviewed enforcement activities for April 2026. Traffic police took action in 24,885 cases of driving without a helmet, 572 cases of driving without a seat belt, 493 cases of red light jumping, 90 cases of drunk driving, and 175 cases of using a mobile phone while driving. The Transport Department suspended 38 driving licences of people found violating traffic rules.
