KANPUR:The advocates of Kanpur nagar and dehat district continued their strike onsecond successive day on Friday. The strike was in response to the call ofstrike given by Allahabad High Court Bar Association to protest the order ofhigh court regarding condolence on the death of an advocate.
TheAllahabad High Court Bar Association had given a call for strike in protestagainst the amendment in section 309 criminal procedure code according toIndivar Bajpai, general secretary, Kanpur Bar Association . He informed that ajoint meeting of Kanpur Bar Association and The Lawyers Association had decidedto respond to the call of Allahabad High Court Bar Association and continuestrike to press their demand to implement old and traditional procedure ofcondolence.
The High Court recently in an order issued directions tothe district courts to close the courts at 3.30 pm instead afterlunch.
The advocates took the matter seriously and lodged theirprotest .They claimed that the Kanpur court had a tradition to close thejudicial work in second session to condole the death of an advocate. Theyclaimed that if courts would close at 3.30 pm then when other advocates would goto pay tribute or for attending last rites.
General secretaryinformed that chief justice had given him an appointment on Monday noon atLucknow where he would present his presentation in this regard .If our demandwas not met then Kanpur Bar association would convene a conference of all theBar Associations of state to discuss the issue and future action would be takenin that meeting .
Indeevar Bajpai said that the advocates of twodistrict courts would remain on strike on Saturday, while on Monday they wouldobserve strike in response of call by All India Bar Council.
