7 silver crowns worth Rs 3L stolen from Siddhi Vinayak Temple in city
Kanpur: A thief stole seven silver crowns worth Rs 3 lakh from the Siddhi Vinayak Temple at Ghantaghar Chowk in the city on Saturday.A man, accompanied by a woman and a child, was seen walking off with the crowns in CCTV footage after the temple reported a theft. The caretaker promptly lodged a complaint with Harbansh Mohal police, who are now investigating the caseSudhir Gupta, the temple trustee, said there are eight idols of Lord Ganesh on the second floor. When he arrived at the temple on Saturday evening, he discovered that the crowns from seven idols were missing. He scanned the CCTV recordings, which showed that around 9:48 am, an individual walked off with seven crowns valued at around Rs 3 lakh. He was accompanied by a woman and a child.Gupta told the police thatthe temple priest’s two-day absence gave the thief the perfect opportunity to strike, and it seems he had cased the place earlier. Police are on the case and expect to nab the suspect soon, said the Harbansh Mohal station in-charge.
