Kanpur: The police have arrested two persons involved in placing bets on IPL cricket matches in Jalaun district on late Saturday night. The police have recovered Rs 22 lakh in cash, besides other equipment from the accused, who have been sent to jail.
SP Ravi Kumar while briefing media persons on Sunday said that one Kaushik Shukla, resident of Mohalla Raoganj and Shyam Sundar, resident of Mohalla Ganeshganj, who were placing bets in IPL matches, were nabbed by police on April 9 night from a house in Mohalla Raoganj station road.
“The raiding team also recovered Rs 22 lakh in cash, besides a calculator, three mobile phones, five diary registers, nine ATM cards, one LED TV, a setup box and a remote from their possession. The arrested people revealed that they used to place bets on IPL matches through an internet link,” the SP said.
SP Ravi Kumar further said that Kaushik Shukla, one among the arrested, had earlier been sent to jail in 2020 on similar charges of betting.
“One of the accused Bittu alias Sachin Dixit, resident of Mohalla Maniganj Kalpi fled from the spot. Police are zeroing in on him,” said SP further. tnn
